Mac Baren Pipe Tobacco I've never had a freshly opened tin that was not perfect for smoking. There is very little of the campfire and leather latakia-type taste. Has a rich experience for me and this tobacco was a unique in months because even when stored for so long, still provided good smoked, full of flavor. Regardless, it does have a decent nicotine punch, more so then Penzance or Caravan. but that makes sense considering this is considered the benchmark, therefore a lot of imitations have hit upon it, and some very well. And the latakia, for all that time, seems to have lost its oomph. Either of these methods do wonders in bringing forward the depth early in the bowl, which is otherwise experienced more toward the bottom. But when I first tasted and smelled that wonderful exotic smoke I was hooked. So they have found J.F. This is a nice ribbon cut ranging from medium brown to dark brown to black in color, with a very dark tone overall. Starting off astringent and downright sour, the middle section is dominated by exotic spiciness, particularly of cedar. To me the (alleged) Smyrna provides a delicious musty, spicy note that I don't have the pleasure of tasting often. I do find the 90s version to still be good and similar to the current Germain version, but overall it was a shadow of its former self. Though it is still a very good tobacco, the industrialized process of its manufacture has forced it to join the ranks of those blends (Gold Block, Rich Dark Honeydew, Highland Sliced or Three Nuns plastic pouch) that can only be a pale reflection of their old selves. Not a terribly expensive blend, so value is not really a concern. As much as I loved (and continue to love) latakia, I can't say I ever really loved this particulat mixture. I managed to get hold of a pouch of this mixture and after carefully rehydrating it, went on a very pleasant trip down memory lane. It is good smoke and I'm glad I got a hold of a couple of tins but, that's about it. Who knows? After a few puffs, the tobacco flavors begin to meld & it just keeps getting better until the very end. Comparisons: Similar to the GL Pease blends in the same way a red crayon drawing resembles Rothko's "Red on Maroon"; the flavors are there; but this is infinitely more complex and more subtle. I must confess I did not notice the Turkish in the beginning but later during the smoking it came to my attention and the experience was not all that superb. Pease Caravan. After 45 minutes of drying I loaded it into a brand new Peterson 317 that had never been smoked. So I began a quest to find some, and I found several pouches. Ran out in the late 80's. The sample I got was aged, obviously. In short, Balkan Sobranie Original Smoking Mixture is back! 1981, transition year to the Gallaher production, good but really just not it. Shows what they know. The flavor is very deep and rich and burns to a clean white ash. The latakias has utterly melded and permeated the rest of the blend. Size: 1.76 Oz. Surprisingly, Sutliff's recreation is close to the original. Burns to fine white ash. Every time I cracked a tin open I'd marvel at the mosaic of colours, ranging from black, grey and bright leaf. Included were 6 tins of the old 759 and 3 tins of the #10. Maybe tobacco grown in the Balkan region has some affect on the flavor. I will prove the New Balkan Sobranie and I really wish they would have achieved a blend as good as the original, because I think just like that, honestly, never will be. 4. The tobacco is a very different experience than I expected. That includes, Sutliff, Black House, and even Blue Mountain. Requires an average number of relights, and leaves little dampness in the bowl. The taste throughout was awesome. I know this is it usual but Years ago I was an occasional cigarette smoker and I really enjoyed the cigarettes made from this brand. Four stars despite the number of changes that occurred. Here you can really notice that there is more of the dark smoked leaf in the 2011 version. It was cheaper, and it had the stronger flavor I liked without being Galoises(sp?). That being said it hasn't degraded too much and still is a extremely fine tobacco. No. It seeped into my jackets and the children when young used to love sniffing at those jackets. This is the closest I have ever tasted to the original product. The tobacco presents a fine white ash when burnt.
